Airbus A-380

SYDNEY (Reuters) - The world’s biggest jumbo jet landed safely in Sydney on Thursday, completing its long-delayed first commercial flight from Singapore.

The double-decker A380 emerged from low-lying cloud and flew across Sydney’s famous harbor before touching down on time, a contrast to two years of delays which pushed its manufacturer Airbus into a loss.

Watched by hundreds of airport staff and aviation enthusiasts lining fences outside the airport, passengers on the inaugural Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight disembarked without a hitch.

The wet Sydney afternoon did nothing to dampen passengers’ enthusiasm.

“It was just an incredible flight. The people onboard really turned it into a party,” said passenger Ross Greenwood, a journalist for Australia’s Channel Nine television network.

“The food was luxurious in first class, but even those people in economy were fed fillet of beef and it was beautiful,” he said. “The aircraft is incredibly quiet and spacious.”

Passengers paid between $560 and $100,380 for seats on the inaugural flight, after bidding for the tickets as part of a charity auction to drum up publicity.

During the flight, first-class passengers reclined in suites modeled on luxury yacht interiors and slumbered in proper beds which the airline said can be converted into doubles.

If you’ve ever made or received a call using a calling card, you’ve probably noticed one of the side effects of these payment systems: instead of your number showing up on the recipient’s Caller ID screen, a number owned by the card’s issuer appears. Now a company called SpoofCard has decided to capitalize on this discrepancy by selling calling cards that are specifically designed to spoof Caller ID systems.

For about 17 cents a minute, SpoofCard lets you send any numeric string as your Caller ID code. The service goes even further, providing realtime voice-changing capabilities and call recording. Although SpoofCard’s Privacy Policy specifies that the service shouldn’t be used for illegal activities and that the company reserves the right to hand over your personal info if they’re subpoenaed, we won’t be surprised to see this shut down soon. In the meantime, here’s your chance to really confuse those wiretappers.

In Series Wordpress Plugin

October 23rd, 2007 | Posted in Tech, Wordpress | del.icio.us! | digg! | reddit! | 1 Comment »

In Series is a plugin that lets you write series of posts in WordPress, without having to deal with the hassle of manually writing up tables of contents or “next” and “previous” links in each post. It adds a new set of controls to the post editing screen, allowing you to add the post to a series (new or existing), re-order the post within a series it’s already in, or remove the post from a series entirely. In Series uses this information to automatically render all sorts of things — navigational <link> tags, tables of contents, previous- and next-in-series links, and more. The plugin also adds a new “Series” configuration sub-tab (under the “Options” tab in the admin pages), providing a highly-flexible mechanism for controlling how In Series renders content within your posts.

In Series requires WordPress 1.5.2 or later, including WordPress 2.3. There may be PHP or MySQL requirements as well — In Series is tested with PHP 5.2.4, and MySQL 5.0.44. It should work with PHP 4.3.0 and MySQL 4;
