Top Tips For Avoiding Burnout

In our work, we want to ensure we are always doing our best. The last thing we want is to know we aren’t working at our full potential. When we feel swamped, it can be tempting to work overtime, put in extra hours, and spend all our time behind a computer or at work. While this might seem productive, it can actually have the opposite effect.

If you end up working all around the clock, you can end up with burnout that isn’t a help to anyone. No matter the industry you work in, whether in marketing, photography, finance or for Marine and Industrial Applications such as working on the Volvo Penta, you need to take care of yourself. If you find that you have been neglecting yourself in favor of your career, it is time to take a step back. Here are some top tips for avoiding burnout.

Work smarter, not harder

It is always better to work smarter instead of working harder. Try to get your most difficult and time-consuming tasks done first and get them out of the way; this way, and you’ll feel more refreshed and prepared to tackle the other tasks. Try not to procrastinate as this will only lead to more stress and late nights working in the long run. Instead, get your work done and then look at social media or whatever else you were doing to delay your work.

Don’t be afraid to delegate Don’t be afraid to delegate

It can feel like a failure to delegate, but it is a much smarter move to ask for help than to let it all get on top of you. Don’t be afraid to ask someone to assist with your tasks or to tell your manager that they are giving you too much to handle. This way, you show you are sensible, aware, and want the best for the company rather than trying to shoulder it all alone.

Give yourself set times to finish work.

When you have a lot of work, it can be tempting to keep doing it, but it is important for your mental health that you give yourself set times to finish. If you need to do some extra hours, make sure that it doesn’t happen every day and that it’s not until a ridiculous time in the evening.

Turn your work phone off when you are at home, and don’t check your emails when you are out of the office – including when you are on holiday. Everyone needs a reset now and then, and taking time away from your emails can actually help you in the long run.

These are just a few top tips that can help you to avoid burnout. Burnout will make you perform worse at work as you won’t be able to concentrate properly and could end up spending your time rectifying mistakes that you made. Follow the top tips above to try and avoid it happening. What are some ways you avoid burnout? Let us know in the comments below.
