4 Things to Look For When Hiring A Business Accountant

A business accountant is one of the most influential people in your company. In addition to handling all the regular accounting duties, they can help you make better business decisions and even save you money.

Finding a good business accountant can be difficult if you don’t know what to look for. In this article, Mark Daniel & Co has listed four key things to consider when hiring a new accountant.

Credentials and Certifications

When you are looking for a business accountant, make sure that they have the following credentials and certifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – This certification is accountants’ most commonly held designation. It requires at least 150 semester hours of college coursework and passing a national exam.
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) – The CMA designation requires at least 150 semester hours of college coursework but does not require passing a national exam.
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) – The CIA designation requires at least 125 semester hours of college coursework but does not require passing a national exam.
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) – A CFP is an accountant specializing in financial planning rather than tax preparation or auditing. To become certified as one, you must attend 21 hours per quarter over two years from an accredited school before taking the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) test online.

Extensive Business Accounting ExperienceExtensive Business Accounting Experience

It’s important to look for an accountant who has worked in the business accounting field for several years. It can be helpful to ask them about their experience, and it’s always a good idea to check out their LinkedIn profile or review their professional resume. They must also have experience working with businesses in your specific industry and size range since these factors will affect how their services are delivered.

Good Communication Skills And A Friendly Personality

As an accountant, you will work closely with the people who hire and pay you. This means that it is important for your communication skills to be clear, concise, and professional. A friendly personality goes a long way as well!

Strong Work Ethic

A strong work ethic is one of the most important traits to look for in an accountant. A business owner will be able to tell if an employee has a strong work ethic right away, but what are some signs that someone is not working as hard as they could?

  • If they’re always late or leave early, this can be a sign that they don’t care about their job or the company they work for. A business owner should never tolerate this behavior because it shows that the employee doesn’t respect their time or yours
  • They don’t ask questions when something doesn’t make sense: If an employee isn’t willing to ask questions, it shows that there’s something missing from their knowledge base and may cause problems down the road

If you happen to have someone on your staff who isn’t putting in enough effort at work, it’s important not only for yourself but also for them personally as well! If you are unable to motivate them, then perhaps its time for both parties involved (you and this person) to move on from one another before any further damage occurs within either party’s relationship with each other

Hiring A Business Accountant: Conclusion

When hiring a business accountant for your company, it’s essential to know what to look for. This will help ensure that you find the right person for the job and avoid wasting time on an interview process with someone who will not be a good fit.
