It tells you how many visitors your website has over a specific period. It’s so common for beginners to think this is the most important metric.

As long as you’re driving traffic to your site – and the figure keeps going up – then you’re successful, right?

Nope. Web traffic is somewhat important as you do want lots of people to visit your site. However, it means nothing if your visitors aren’t doing anything.

Instead, you should care more about conversion rates. A conversion rate tells you what percentage of your traffic goes on to complete an action. For example, it tells you how many go and buy a product.

This is far more important as it shows you’re benefitting from the traffic. You may have lots of traffic, but they all leave straight away without doing anything. As such, how are you benefitting?!

It’s easy to get excited when you start looking at digital marketing. It seems like such a powerful tool, so you assume that it’s all you need to market and promote your business.

Closing yourself off to an entire aspect of marketing is ludicrous!
