Health & Beauty Products That Could Be Bad For You

Think about how many health & beauty products you use every single day. Some of them are really good for you, but others might be far worse than initially thought. There’s a certain irony in some products being advertised as beneficial, only to cause more harm than good.

Today, we’re looking at some common products that could be bad for your health. I say ‘could’ because there’s no guarantee that you will or won’t end up with any health issues. Nevertheless, all the products on this list do have a certain amount of evidence backing up claims that they’re potentially harmful.

Charcoal Toothpaste

Charcoal is a massive trend in the health & beauty world these days. It started with charcoal, face masks, and face washes, but many more products have soon followed. The worst one is charcoal toothpaste, which claims to help whiten your teeth. The idea is that the minerals in activated charcoal can clear away stains and leave your teeth whiter than ever.

While that statement is technically true, charcoal toothpaste has a significant drawback: it doesn’t contain fluoride. Fluoride is essential for protecting tooth enamel and preventing decay. Therefore, if you use charcoal toothpaste, you’re highly likely to get cavities – leading to all sorts of dental problems. This is mainly why the ADA doesn’t recommend charcoal toothpaste, even if it helps whiten your teeth.

For extra precaution, it is advisable to seek expertise at massapequa family dentistry.

Talcum PowderTalcum Powder

Talcum powder – or talc – is a popular product amongst many women. It’s generally used to prevent chafing and to keep the skin nice and smooth. However, there are some solid links between this product and cancer. It’s believed that roughly 16,000 women have contracted ovarian cancer due to using talcum powder. As such, this is a product you should definitely be very wary of.

It stems from the fact that talc is a naturally occurring mineral, but it exists very close to asbestos. As you should know, asbestos is toxic and can cause cancer. It’s banned in all products nowadays, but experts believe that it’s impossible to mine talc without getting some asbestos at the same time. So, perhaps it’s time to find an alternative that doesn’t include talc!

Bad Beauty Products: DeodorantBad Beauty Products

Lastly, most deodorants will contain aluminum as a key ingredient. Again, this is strongly linked to cancer and is considered quite toxic. Plus, many deodorants contain other ingredients that can cause excessive itching and be bad for your skin.

Either way, the good news is that you can find aluminum-free deodorants with ease. The best approach is to find a natural deodorant that’s made from natural ingredients and won’t harm your body. Be warned and it can take a few days for your body to adjust to the new deodorant. If you smell more than usual, it should pass in a few days. Obviously, you decide what products to use and avoid. It’s your life, so all the decisions are up to you. I wanted to create this post to shine a light on a few products you may want to think twice about.
