Effecting Organizational Change at a Personal Level

There is no denying that one of the biggest challenges that organizations face is effectively bringing about change. Change management is a subject regularly discussed, as it is something that businesses need to give a lot of thought to, especially when enacting change at a personal level.

There are four levers to driving change

Effecting change at a personal level is incredibly challenging, as it involves changing the underlying mindsets and behaviors of several critical individuals. There are four key levers when it comes to driving change. These are as follows:

  1. Role modeling
  2. Fostering conviction and understanding
  3. Using formal mechanisms to reinforce this
  4. Building skills and increasing confidence

When these four levers come together, they are known as an influence model. You will be more likely to succeed if you use the four-pointers mentioned above to drive personal change within your business.

Nevertheless, we live in an increasingly personalized world, with people expecting information to be tailored to suit their specific wants and needs. This means that we are moving away from the one-size-fits-all model. It just does not work anymore. Instead, personalizing strategies like the influence model we have discussed above is the best way of getting individuals within your business to start engaging in the change in a meaningful manner. When this happens, there is a much greater chance that the changes you implement will actually have staying power.

How can you create your own personal influence model to effect change?

Now that you have a good idea regarding influence models and the importance of making them personal to enact change let’s tell you how you can achieve this. Earlier in the post, we mentioned the four levers that make up an influencer model. So, what should you do to create a personalized influence model? Here are some important steps:

  • Establish meaningful employee segments – This could be a specific job role or level.
  • Break down organizational objectives – Your organizational goals should be broken down into specific behaviors that will show what excellence looks like for each group or team.
  • Make the most of analytics and/or focus groups – This will help determine what individual’s preferences are and their underlying mindsets.
  • Personalized actions should be developed and rolled out – You should do this across each of the levers mentioned. Then, you can use tech-enabled tools for mass deployment.
  • Track progress with real-time iteration – This will help you maximize the impact of your efforts so that you can have the best possible results.

Once you follow the steps mentioned above, you should affect organizational change at a much more personal level. There is no denying that changing an organization at a personal level can be a challenge for any business, which is why it makes sense to use the services of a change management consultant for assistance.
