How To Adult Like A BOSS!

“I just love balancing my checkbook,” – said no one, ever.  But it doesn’t have to be all boring and laborious.  Follow these simple checks and balances, and you can do “you,” like a pro.

KEEPING ON TOP OF YOUR FINANCES

Yep, I might as well get it out of the way.  There is simply no way around it, and you’re not going to get to where you want to go if the numbers don’t make sense.  You don’t need to be a chartered accountant either, but a good personal financial plan and budget will go a long way. Download some free templates to help you get started here.

GOAL SETTING AND STAYING ON TRACK

You are not going anywhere – until you know where you’re going, and adulting requires a good dose of that if you’re going to do it well.  And you’re going to.  There’s never a better time than right now to reassess where you’re at.  Include relationship status, career or business planning, and a good dose of short to medium-term goals that cover your passions, interests, sport, or fitness-related goals. Then create a plan to achieve them.

BE A STUDENT…how to adult like a boss

Investing in education and skills development doesn’t have to end with college – nor does it begin there.  The world is changing, and you don’t have to go to college or university to set yourself up with a life-changing career path. There are dozens of new and stimulating ways to check your skillset and become better prepared for life. Still, if you’re inclined to business, then a business major is what you’re looking for, and if you needed any more motivation, going to college could actually make you happy.

KNOWING WHEN TO “KNOW”

We all want and crave a certain level of acceptance from our peer groups, and this, if not checked, can place you in difficult situations that you might not be comfortable with.  Part of adulting like a boss is knowing who you are and what you stand for. After all, if you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.

BE THE CHANGE

Look, you can’t argue with Gandhi. (Ok, he didn’t really say it the way we think he did, his actual verbiage is here.) But it’s still solid advice.  If you want to stand out from your contemporaries (and you do), a good place to start is by being the person who sets the standards, not following them.  This is also an awesome way to determine who you are and what you want for yourself and your future family.

…AND FINALLY..how to adult like a boss

Never think that you have to have it all figured out all the time.  Always leave room to be surprised, and you’ll find that life will oblige.  You’re never too young to get started, and equally, you’re never too old to start over either.

But keeping a smart eye on your financial planning, career objectives, and self-improvement goals is an intelligent and proactive way to start your adulting career (or redesign it).
