Household Jobs You Don’t Want to Do but You Absolutely Must

No matter the age of your home, it requires maintenance. While series maintenance issues can occur following a disaster, for example, most maintenance jobs are easy. They will prolong the life of your home. They will also make your home more hygienic to live in.

However, the jobs worth doing are usually the ones we really don’t want to do. For example, fumbling around the roof and drainage system is no one’s idea of fun. And who in the world enjoys cleaning the bathroom? Also, while dusting isn’t a particularly gruesome job, it can be tedious.

Outside Maintenance

Working outside is hard enough, but sometimes you have to do some of the most grueling jobs at the most inconvenient times. For example, cleaning the gutters should be done as often as possible, yet it is vital following a rainstorm. During a storm, leaves and other debris will clog the drainage system of your home. Drainage blockages will cause many hazardous issues for your residences, such as leaks, burst pipes, and groundwater flooding.

Also, with winter coming up, you want to keep your home as warm as possible. This means checking your windows for draughts. Draught-proofed homes are more efficient at lower temperatures.

Therefore, you can use less heating, lowering your bills. Professional draught-proofing isn’t expensive, yet you can do it yourself on a budget. Check for internal and external cracks in windows, block unused chimney flues and reduce moisture in the home.

Household Jobs: Cleaning Very Dirty ThingsHousehold Jobs

Let’s face it, and people can be filthy. Even the cleanest homes aren’t entirely free of bacterial hazards. On your own body alone, you carry around 39 trillion bacteria, viruses, and fungi cells. Yet, we have evolved to resist most.

The problems occur when there is an accumulation of harmful bacteria in and around the home that we cannot fight off in excess. Because of the moisture of these rooms, the bathroom and kitchen are home to the most bacteria. Should you choose not to clean these rooms properly, you can become seriously ill.

When you do your business, as it were, bacteria such as E.Coli can multiply if your toilet is left to fester. In addition, red and black mold can also form on your bathroom tiles and around the bath. These can cause respiratory issues, allergies, and organ infections in severe cases. Fortunately, weekly cleaning with off-the-shelf products and bleach is all that is required to kill 99.9% of harmful bacteria.

Household Jobs: Dust and Dander Reduction

In addition to hosting numerous bacteria and viruses, you also shed your skin everywhere. Around 70% of household dust consists of human skin and hair cells. The rest is airborne contaminants, bugs, and animal hair and skin, such as cats and dogs. But as natural as it is to shed skin and hair, dust can become dangerous if left unchecked. For example, allergies will become exacerbated to the point of increased reactions that require medical aid.

Fortunately, reducing dust and dander in your home is relatively straightforward. The most effective method is by dusting regularly. This is a chore, yet it will keep dust to a minimum and make your home look clean. Second, you can invest in an air purifier.

While an air purifier isn’t a miracle cure for dust, it will trap airborne particles. Anything larger than 0.3 microns will be trapped by a HEPA filter. This is excellent for reducing pollen, mold spores, and common bacteria.
