Improving the Immune System: Alternative Practices You May Not Have Heard Of

If you experience allergies or find yourself under the weather a lot, it’s easy enough to blame the world around us, but of course, it’s how our immune system reacts to the world around us.

If you get colds all of the time or feel exhausted even though you’re getting great sleep, a poor immune system is very likely the cause. This is why it’s beneficial for us all to know how to boost our immune systems. But what are some ways we can do this beyond the traditional methods?

Fixing the Spinechiropractic adjustment

There are many chiropractic adjustment services that focus on boosting the immune system via the spine. Because your nervous system communicates with the rest of the body via the spinal cord, if there’s any spine misalignment, this means interference in communication, which could result in a higher chance of illness. Ensuring that you can get your spine fixed or making sure that you are retaining mobility can make a big difference.

Spending Time Outside

We hear a lot about spending time outside being good for us. Sunlight is the best way for our skin to create vitamin D, which is pivotal to our immune system, but there’s also aspects that can make a massive difference to our overall health.

Because many live in urban environments, there is no opportunity to go into the forest. Spending time in the woods and taking in the sights and sounds around them can result in a lot less stress and anxiety, which can improve the immune system.

Draining Your Lymphatic System

The lymphatic system can get build-up, which causes stress on the body and compromises the immune system. Draining the lymphatic system is something that can feel fantastic on the body, as it is similar to a massage.

Learning to Relax Properly

Sleep is so important to our community. If you have poor-quality sleep, you are more susceptible to being sick. But for many people who don’t know how to rest properly, it all stems from having the right wind-down routine but also ensuring that the 3-2-1 method is followed:

  • 3 hours before bed, no food or alcohol.
  • 2 hours before bed, no work.
  • 1 hour before bed, no screen time.

It’s also important to ensure that you understand the concept of good quality sleep in terms of sleep cycles. We roughly have 90 minutes of sleep in cycles, so if you ever feel groggy after waking up, it’s very likely you woke up in the middle of a sleep cycle.

Improving The Immune System: A Cold Shower

Wherever you turn, the benefits of cold water are being touted. Cold showers have benefits for the immune system because it stimulates more white blood cells. As Wim Hof says, “a cold shower a day keeps the doctor away!”

The immune system is very complex and having to stimulate it in the right ways makes a big difference. These are some alternative methods beyond the traditional ones, including vitamin C, improving your gut bacteria, and exercise.
