15 Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle Change

Remember when “getting crunk in the club” was the ultimate Friday night goal?

Well, some Gen Zers are nostalgic for an era of clubbing they didn’t get to experience, but Zoomers on TikTok are finding that nightlife in 2024 is no longer about wild parties.

Instead, the new trend is all about cutting out sugar and ditching alcohol for a healthier lifestyle.

With the economy and health crises prompting us to rethink our priorities, the focus has shifted towards holistic wellness.

In 2024, healthy lifestyle changes are more popular than ever.

From trying out the latest “What I Eat in a Day” challenges on Instagram to joining online fitness communities, everyone is finding new ways to feel good and live better.

It’s no longer just about losing weight or hitting the gym; it’s about creating a balanced life that nurtures both body and mind.

Our bodies are temples, and it’s high time we start treating them that way.

But how do you go about making these changes?

Here are 15 tips to help you transform your lifestyle for the better, ensuring you feel amazing inside and out.

Start immediately

It’s so important to begin immediately rather than pushing it off. Don’t wait for tomorrow, next week, or the beginning of the month. Here’s how to jumpstart your journey:

  • Make Your Next Meal Healthy: Start by cooking something nutritious. Try a simple salad with leafy greens, nuts, and a light vinaigrette or grill some salmon with a side of steamed veggies.
  • Shop Smart: One convenient tip is only to buy healthy foods from the grocery store. Stock up on fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. If junk food isn’t in your house, you won’t be tempted to eat it.
  • Set Small Goals: Instead of thinking about the big picture, set small, manageable goals. This could be drinking an extra glass of water each day or adding a 10-minute walk to your routine.
  • Join the Trends: Get inspired by current trends on TikTok and Instagram. From “30-day fitness challenges” to “meal prep Sundays,” these trends can provide motivation and community support.

Remember, today is the day you should begin your lifestyle change. By taking action now, you set the tone for a healthier, happier future. Let’s dive into more tips that will help you achieve your goals!

Plan for success

healthier way of living

If you believe that you’re going to succeed, then you will. It’s imperative to believe in yourself and to believe that success will come your way.

This change in mindset will keep you motivated and ensure that you keep pushing forward toward your healthy lifestyle change.

For me, I’ve found that I get better results when I don’t set rigid plans.

Instead, I enjoy the process, take one step at a time, and focus on building a habit. I embrace every result and shift my thinking towards positivity and growth.

This makes my journey toward a healthier way of living more enjoyable and sustainable.

Here are some tips to help you plan for success:

  • Believe in Yourself: Start with the mindset that you can achieve your goals. This belief will keep you motivated and drive you to take action in your healthy lifestyle change.
  • Celebrate Small Wins: No achievement is too small to celebrate. Recognize your progress and reward yourself. Whether it’s buying new clothes, watching a new movie, or getting a massage, these little rewards keep you excited and motivated.
  • Enjoy the Journey: Rather than focusing solely on the end goal, enjoy each step of the journey. This makes the process more enjoyable and less stressful.
  • Change Your Thinking: Focus on positive thoughts and the progress you’re making. This mental shift will help you stay committed and enthusiastic about your goals.
  • Stay Flexible: Allow yourself to adapt and change your plans as needed. Sometimes the best results come from being open to new paths and experiences.

Remember, the journey to a healthy lifestyle change is personal. By focusing on your mindset, celebrating every milestone, and enjoying the process, you set yourself up for lasting success. Let’s explore more tips to help you on this exciting journey!

Meal prep is best

Meal prep is going to be your best friend on your journey to a healthy lifestyle change.

By measuring out portions that work best for your body, you’ll be able to stick to a more consistent eating schedule and develop healthier habits.

Here are some tips and tools to get you started:

  • Portion Control: When you prep your meals, you know exactly how many calories you’re consuming each day. Apps like Noom can help you track your intake and ensure you’re meeting your nutritional goals.
  • Save Time: One of the biggest perks of meal prep is the time you’ll save. Instead of cooking every day, dedicate one day a week to prepare all your meals. This way, you just grab and go during the week, freeing up time for other activities.
  • Stay Organized: Using meal prep containers helps keep your fridge organized and makes it easy to grab a meal when you’re hungry. You can find various meal prep containers that fit your portion needs perfectly.
  • Healthy Habits: Apps like MyFitnessPal or Yummly offer meal prep ideas, recipes, and tracking features that can keep you on track with your healthy eating goals. They even provide shopping lists to make your prep day easier.

I’ve also tried intermittent fasting, and it really worked for me. However, my doctor recommended not using this method for more than one to two days.

The reason is that prolonged fasting can lead to nutritional deficiencies and may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with certain medical conditions or who require a steady intake of nutrients throughout the day.

Remember, meal prep isn’t just about eating right; it’s about making your life easier and more organized.

By incorporating meal prep into your routine, you’ll find that sticking to a healthy lifestyle change becomes much more manageable and enjoyable.

Figure out what gives you motivation

healthier way of living

It’s important to figure out what motivates you. For me, as a 41-year-old millennial, staying healthy is a top priority because I adore traveling and want to stay active as much as possible.

Plus, I want to live longer and enjoy life to the fullest. Recently, another big motivation for me has been looking my best.

I’m trying new ways to make money as a UGC creator (user-generated content), so I want to look healthier and feel better about myself.

Here are some tips to help you find your motivation:

  • Set Clear Goals: Determine what you want to achieve. It could be running a 5k, losing a certain amount of weight, or simply feeling more energetic. Having a clear goal in mind can drive you to stay on track.
  • Find Your Why: Understand why you want to make a change. For me, it’s about staying active for my travels and looking good for my new venture in UGC. Your “why” might be different, but knowing it will keep you focused.
  • Incorporate Fun: Make sure you enjoy the process. Whether it’s finding the perfect song to get you pumped for a workout or trying new healthy recipes, make your journey enjoyable.
  • Track Your Progress: Use apps like Noom or MyFitnessPal to monitor your progress. Seeing your improvements can be incredibly motivating.
  • Reward Yourself: Celebrate small victories along the way. Rewards can keep you motivated and excited about your progress, whether it’s a new outfit, a day trip, or a relaxing massage.

Remember, motivation comes from within. By understanding what drives you and setting yourself up for success, you’ll find it easier to stay committed to your healthy lifestyle change.

Understand it’s okay to make mistakes

We all make mistakes; changing into a healthier lifestyle will give for a lot of room to learn and make mistakes.

Also, realize that health isn’t just some “one size fits all.” What may work for someone else may not work out for you, and that’s okay.

Get regular check-ups

It’s so important to get annual check-ups to stay on top of your health. While many people often neglect their yearly physical, you shouldn’t do that. Regular check-ups help you understand what’s going on with your body and catch any potential issues early.

I’ve started doing my check-ups, and I’m really happy about it. As a Ukrainian, I do my check-ups in Ukraine, and the best place I can recommend is Dila for getting blood work done.

It’s the first step in knowing what’s going on with your health and making informed decisions.

Here are some reasons and tips to stay on top of your check-ups:

  • Early Detection: Regular check-ups can catch health issues before they become serious. Early detection often leads to better treatment outcomes.
  • Peace of Mind: Knowing that you’re in good health can reduce anxiety and stress. It’s reassuring to have a clean bill of health.
  • Build a Relationship with Your Doctor: Regular visits help you build a rapport with your doctor, making it easier to discuss any concerns you might have.
  • Comprehensive Health Plans: Talk with your doctor about other things you can do to improve your health. This might include lifestyle changes, supplements, or specific treatments.
  • Specialist Recommendations: If you’re getting your check-ups in Ukraine, places like Dila offer excellent services for blood work and other diagnostics. They provide accurate results and are a great starting point to understand your health better.

Remember, taking care of your health is a crucial part of your overall well-being and a significant step towards a healthy lifestyle change. By staying proactive and informed, you’ll be better equipped to enjoy life to the fullest.

Don’t forget about your hearing

find the best audiologist

Your hearing is just as important as your physical health. Many people have hearing issues without even realizing it.

Age-related hearing loss is a common symptom that happens within age. So it’s important to find the best audiologist so you can look after your hearing health.

Here are some reasons and tips to prioritize your hearing:

  • Early Detection: Regular hearing check-ups can catch hearing loss early, allowing for more effective treatment. Just like regular physicals, hearing tests are a vital part of your overall health routine.
  • Quality of Life: Good hearing health contributes significantly to your quality of life. It enhances communication, reduces the risk of social isolation, and helps maintain mental sharpness.
  • Professional Help: Seek out a qualified audiologist who can provide comprehensive hearing evaluations and recommend the best solutions if any issues are found. They can guide you on hearing aids or other assistive devices if necessary.
  • Preventive Measures: Protect your hearing by avoiding prolonged exposure to loud noises, using ear protection in noisy environments, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent conditions that can affect hearing, like diabetes and hypertension.
  • Stay Informed: Educate yourself about the signs of hearing loss, such as frequently asking people to repeat themselves, turning up the volume on devices, or having trouble following conversations in noisy places.

Taking care of your hearing is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle change. By being proactive about your hearing health, you ensure that you can fully enjoy all the sounds and experiences life has to offer.

Don’t wait until there’s a problem—make hearing check-ups a regular part of your health maintenance routine.

Keep yourself accountable

It’s so important to keep yourself accountable. Self-discipline is a huge part of living a healthy lifestyle.

Ask yourself, “how will I feel in two hours after doing this?”, this may help keep you from indulging in things you shouldn’t consume or skipping an exercise session.

Stay hydrated

maintaining overall health

Staying hydrated is essential for maintaining overall health. Thirst and hunger often get mixed up, so when you feel hungry, try drinking a glass of water first to see if it curbs the hunger.

It’s also beneficial to drink water before meals to help control your appetite.

Here are some tips and reasons to prioritize hydration:

  • Curbs Hunger: Drinking water can help you determine if you’re truly hungry or just thirsty. This can prevent unnecessary snacking and help with weight management.
  • Pre-Meal Hydration: Drinking water before meals can make you feel fuller, helping you eat less and stay on track with your healthy eating goals.
  • Essential for Body Functions: Hydration is crucial for various bodily functions, including digestion, circulation, and temperature regulation. Aim to drink enough water throughout the day to keep your body functioning optimally.
  • Avoid Overhydration: While staying hydrated is important, it’s also crucial not to overhydrate. Stick to water and avoid drinks with too much caffeine or sugars, as they can dehydrate you and add unnecessary calories.
  • Healthy Alternatives: If plain water gets boring, try infusing it with slices of fruit like lemon, lime, or cucumber for a refreshing twist. Herbal teas and coconut water are also great hydrating options.

By staying hydrated, you support your body’s essential functions and contribute to a healthy lifestyle change. Make it a habit to drink water regularly, and you’ll notice the positive impact on your overall well-being.

Plan activities in advance

Being organized is a big part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I love playing summer and winter activities, like cross-country skiing in the winter and more hiking and walking in the summer. Avoiding extremes in my 40s, I find that planning activities in advance helps me ensure I have the time and energy they deserve.

Here are some tips to help you plan your activities:

  • Schedule Ahead: Mark your calendar with planned activities, whether it’s a weekend hike, a skiing trip, or a daily walk. This ensures you allocate time and don’t overcommit.
  • Set Realistic Goals: Plan activities that match your fitness level and interests. Whether it’s a short hike or a longer ski session, setting realistic goals helps you stay motivated and avoid injury.
  • Mix It Up: Variety keeps things interesting. In the winter, I enjoy cross-country skiing, while summer is perfect for hiking and walking. Mixing up activities keeps you engaged and works different muscle groups.
  • Prepare Your Gear: Make sure you have the right equipment for your activities. Having your ski gear ready for winter or hiking boots and hydration packs for summer ensures you’re always prepared.
  • Invite Friends and Family: Activities are more fun with company. Planning with friends or family can keep you accountable and make the experience more enjoyable.

By planning your activities in advance, you can better manage your time and energy, making it easier to stick to a healthy lifestyle change. Whether it’s winter sports or summer hikes, staying organized helps you enjoy your favorite activities and maintain a balanced, active life.

Explore what works best for you

One way to up your healthcare game would be just figuring out what works best for you. If you dislike working out in public, then do it at home.

If you hate running, try jump rope as a form of cardio. Realize that health and exercise vary from person to person, and you shouldn’t feel ashamed that something isn’t working out for you.

It just means you need an alternative.

Use apps to help keep progress

Apps are an amazing way to keep track of your visible progress, but the old fashion pen and paper are just fine as well.

Apps such as MyFitnessPal are wonderful for keeping track of healthy habits, nutrients consumed within a period, and even weight loss photos of yourself.

Seeing the steps you have taken will help you overcome obstacles, push yourself to move forward, and achieve victories of all sizes.

Try to get friends involved

Your journey to a healthy lifestyle change will be a lot less lonely if you get friends involved.
I’ve got a group of my besties who I always hike with during the summer, and it’s a blast.

I am still trying to find someone to join me at the gym, but that’s okay!

Here are some tips to get your friends on board:

  • Start with Fun Activities: You don’t have to invite friends to the gym or a marathon if that isn’t their thing. Fun activities like walking around the park or hiking can be great ways to get in some exercise while hanging out with friends.
  • Share Your Journey: Talk to your friends about your healthy lifestyle change and how it’s positively affecting you. Your enthusiasm might reel them into being your gym partner or joining other fitness activities.
  • Plan Group Activities: Organize regular group activities. My friends and I always hike during the summer, and it’s a fantastic way to stay active and bond. Find activities everyone enjoys, so it doesn’t feel like a chore.
  • Motivate Each Other: Having a buddy system helps keep everyone accountable and motivated. Whether it’s a text reminder about a workout or sharing healthy recipes, support each other in your fitness goals.
  • Be Patient and Flexible: It might take some time to find the perfect gym partner or the right activity that everyone enjoys.

Enjoy Your Treats in Moderation

Enjoy Your Treats in Moderation

It’s fantastic to have your cake and eat it too! Desserts are often the best part of any meal, but it can be easy to get a little carried away with sweets.

Rather than cutting out anything sweet completely, discipline yourself and learn to enjoy them in moderation.

Here are some tips to help you:

  • Moderation is Key: You can still enjoy delectable treats without feeling guilty. Allow yourself to indulge in sweets occasionally and in smaller portions. This way, you can satisfy your cravings without overdoing it.
  • Plan a Cheat Day: Many people have a cheat day where they go days or weeks with a strict diet and then dedicate one day to enjoying comfort foods. This strategy can help you stay disciplined while still enjoying your favorite treats.
  • Don’t Be Hard on Yourself: Remember to love the way you are. You’re already great! It’s okay to indulge once in a while. The key is balance and not letting one treat turn into a habit.
  • Mindful Eating: Practice mindful eating by savoring every bite. This can help you feel more satisfied with smaller portions and reduce the urge to overeat.
  • Celebrate Small Wins: Every small step you take towards a healthier lifestyle is worth celebrating. Don’t focus on the occasional indulgence, but rather on the overall progress you’re making.

By following these tips, you can enjoy your favorite desserts while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Remember, the goal is to have a balanced approach to eating, allowing yourself to indulge occasionally without guilt. Be kind to yourself, and embrace your journey towards a healthier you!

Never give up on yourself

It doesn’t mean you’re hopeless even if you fall off the wagon. Just like for any goal, you should never give up. It’s okay to take breaks and remember that the road to a healthy lifestyle is a little bumpy, so it’s okay to go at a slow pace.
