Home Security: What It Is and Why You Need It

Do you worry about your property or the people in it while you are at work or on vacation? You wouldn’t have to if you had real-time updates on your phone regarding your home security or you had some timers set up for interior lights every night. These are effective security measures.

Secure Doors and Windows

Professional burglars take around ten minutes to break into a property, locate the valuables, and escape without leaving any trace of who they are or where they came from. They can do this because they have experience of what doors and windows can be accessed easily and quickly.

If you want to protect your home from intruders when you’re on vacation or at work, the first thing you need to secure is doors and windows. While glass doors can sometimes be secure, they are not the best; instead, opt for solid wood doors with lever locks and install window locks.

Effective Neighborhood Deterrents

Theives and intruders don’t tend to hang around neighborhoods looking for targets; they are more likely to move around looking for opportunities to strike; that’s why a neighborhood deterrent such as a neighborhood watch system can be effective, join one or set one up.

A neighborhood watch system is simply a number of community members getting together and looking out for criminal activity in the local area. While this should happen anyway, creating a dedicated community expands awareness of local security issues and deters criminal activity.

Deterrents Around Your Home Deterrents Around Your Home

Of course, the last thing you want is for an intruder to get to your front door when you’re away and try to fish for your keys through the letterbox, but this can happen if you don’t have enough deterrents around your home. Things such as lights, alarms, signs, cameras, and jaggy fences.

On the other hand, having a broad set of security deterrents is likely to put a criminal off and motivate them to look for an easier target. If there’s a high chance of getting caught, or if the target house is too tough to break into, they will quickly abandon it and find an easier payday.

Home Protection Devices

Every one is entire to home protection, so when it comes to the last line of defense, owning a stun gun is not a bad idea. Stun guns and tasers are similar but not the same; these devices operate slightly differently; for instance, the Stun Guns on Airplanes can be hard to detect.

Nevertheless, they are both very effective when it comes to home security. A stun gun or taser sends electricity into the assailant’s body, overwhelming the muscles in the affected area and neutralizing the threat. Someone struck by a stun gun can be down for around ten minutes.

Home Security Systems

Some people have a modern home security system and nothing else; they simply use an alarm, some lights, and cameras. There is nothing wrong with this approach, but if you want more robust security for your home, couple a security system with solid doors and locked windows.
