Creating the Illusion of Space in a Cramped Room

Real estate these days is costly. As such, we don’t really get much bang for our buck in terms of space. This leads to very cramped homes that are small and difficult to work with. This is especially true if you’re renting an apartment. There’s not much space for you to rearrange your furniture, and it’s important to make the most of your floor space.

Thankfully, there are a couple of tricks that you can use that will create the illusion of space, even in the most cramped rooms. While you can’t do miracles, you can certainly make more space in your rooms by following a few simple tricks.

Use mirrors to reflect light and create space

MIrrors are a fantastic decorative item to have if you’re looking to create the illusion of space in your home. It’s easy to choose a mirror because they can be found at many different price points, and they’re super easy to install in almost any kind of room. Of course, mirrors need to be strategically placed to reflect light, but this isn’t difficult and will easily help you create the illusion of space in a tightly packed room.

Use multi-purpose furniture when possible

This isn’t an illusion but more a practical tip to help you create more space in your rooms. In most cases, people will have single-use furniture such as a chair or a storage box, but what if you combined them into a single thing? A great example would be an ottoman; it can be used as a seat, a stool, or a storage box. They’re inexpensive, they come in many different designs, and you can store them away if you don’t need them. Multi-purpose furniture like this is incredibly effective at making more space in your rooms and is a great addition to any cramped space.

Consider using glass furnitureCreating the Illusion of Space in a Cramped Room

Glass furniture can seem like a high-maintenance item initially, but it’s surprisingly easy to take care of and maintain. A glass coffee table is an exceptional piece of furniture to add if you’re looking to create the illusion of space because it’s transparent. It lets you see through the entire piece of furniture, making it look like there’s basically nothing there, to begin with. We highly recommend getting yourself a piece of glass furniture if you want to create the illusion of space in your home.

Make better use of your walls

Once again, this isn’t really an illusion but more of a practical tip to save space in cramped rooms. Walls are typically left bare, especially if you’re renting and don’t want to drill anything. However, walls are a great opportunity to fit all kinds of shelves and hanging storage, especially if you’re looking to maximize the amount of space in a cramped room. We highly recommend that you consider using temporary shelving options for lighter items or even speaking to your landlord to try and convince them to let you install a shelf or two for more space.
