5 Tips to Stay Healthy While on Vacation

We are all looking forward to time off this year and vacations that we have waited a long time to enjoy. Whether you’re heading to the beach or the wineries of Italy, you’re more than likely looking forward to some time enjoying the good things in life.

If you’re working towards a healthier lifestyle, you may wonder how vacation fits into your healthy living plan. Here are some tips to help you keep on the healthy track while enjoying your time away from home:

Pack your fitness wear

If you want to be sure to keep up with your fitness routines while on vacation, there is something that must go inside of your luggage: your fitness gear. If you don’t bring your workout clothes, whether it’s your favorite 5 inch shorts men’s, or a pair of running shoes, depending on your destination, it will be much easier to skip out on your vacation workouts.

Do some grocery shoppingDo some grocery shopping

While at your vacation destination, you may have planned to eat out at some local restaurants. After all, you’re on vacation, and it’s a great idea to enjoy the food you wouldn’t normally eat. However, to make sure you’re maintaining a healthy balance, consider doing some grocery shopping for the meals you can eat at home, such as fiber-rich foods for breakfast and healthy snacks in between your restaurant adventures.

This way, your body will be getting some needed nutrients while you balance it out with some of your favorite restaurant food. Additionally, look for restaurants that offer delectable yet natural dishes that will make your mouth water. Who says eating out must be unhealthy?

Make time for movement

Whether you’re going to the beach and make time for a fast-paced swim in the morning, or you get your day going with a 30-minute jog on the sand, there are ways to enjoy some movement while on vacation without it taking up too much time.

Depending on your destination, you may even find yourself walking much more than usual to get from one place to the next. In this case, you wouldn’t even need to schedule a workout as walking around in a European city or even from your beach house to the local plaza could be more than enough movement for your health.

Consider alternative drinks

One area that can pose some challenges to your healthy lifestyle would be the alcohol you drink. We often let go a bit on vacation, allowing ourselves more drinks and food as we let our hair down and enjoy time off. After all, vacation is a time to get away from our routines, and it can feel good to not worry about our normal restrictions.

However, alcohol with high sugar content or gluten can make you feel sluggish and tired, and not to mention bloated. If you want to enjoy your vacation, stay healthy, AND drink, consider alternatives that may not be as calorie-rich or full of sugar, whether it’s a popular seltzer known for low sugar or a vodka drink instead of beers and sugary cocktails.

Stay healthy while on vacation: In Conclusion

Enjoy your vacation and treat yourself, but don’t forget that you’ll be bringing that same body back home with you. Suppose you want to avoid excess bloat, low energy, and feeling like you fell off the wagon of your healthy lifestyle; practice balance on your next vacation. Enjoy that drink and that meal out, but then counterbalance with some healthy food in between, and always, stay hydrated on your vacation!
